Azalea woke up slowly as Saturday afternoon threatened to pass her by. She stretched lazily. She had gotten a little sleep the night before, but she figured she’d earned at least one lazy day during the holidays. She finally got out of bed and got dressed, forgoing her uniform for a pair of jeans and a sweater. She managed to make it down to the Great Hall in time for lunch and as there weren’t many people, she joined Rowena at the Ravenclaw table.
“Where is everyone?” Rowena asked as Azalea settled onto the bench.
“Well,” Azalea reached out and grabbed a sandwich. “Hyacinth left this morning with George.” She couldn’t resist rolling her eyes a little. “And it looks like Issobell didn’t sleep in the dorm last night.” She shrugged. “She’s probably off somewhere with Snape.”
Rowena nodded slowly. “Did you read the Prophet this morning?”
Azalea shook her head and tried to respond through a mouthful of roast turkey. “Just got up. Why? What happened?” Rowena passed her the already fairly crumpled copy of the Saturday Prophet.
Diagon Alley Smashed by Rioters
Late Friday evening, several unidentified witches and wizards took over the streets and caused enormous amounts of damage to Diagon Alley’s many businesses. The damage is estimated in the hundreds of thousands of Galleons. Though many of the rioters wore masks, the Ministry seems unwilling to connect this with the Deatheaters who are still reportedly at large.
“Oh well, that’s just lovely.” Azalea sighed. “Even without Voldemort, they’re a problem.”
“I just hope the joke shop…” Before Rowena finished her though, Azalea began shaking her head.
Azalea lowered her voice. “If it was the deatheaters, they wouldn’t touch the joke shop. Remember, they think George is on their side.” Azalea began flipping through the rest of the Prophet. “They aren’t about to go and destroy the shop that’s supplying their little insurrection, are they.”
“No, I guess not.” Rowena sipped her pumpkin juice absentmindedly. “But they wouldn’t want to make it too obvious either, and with Bellatrix running things…” She lifted her eyes to see her friend glaring down at the paper. “What? What’s wrong?” She watched as the edges of the paper began to glow. Azalea was loosing control. Before the paper burst into flames, Rowena snatched it away. “What is wrong?”
Azalea lifted her eyes to her friends. Rowena couldn't tell if she was going to scream or cry. Azalea had obviously chosen the former of the two. “That… BASTARD!” She jumped up and stormed from the Great Hall, causing quite the scene.
Rowena sat, stunned with the still slightly smoldering paper in her hands. “I take it she just read the sports section.” She whipped around and found Draco sitting beside her. Rowena looked confused. “I can’t say I blame her. I’m sure it’s just bullshit from the Prophet.” He took the paper from her, and flipped casually through it. “Why they let Rita Skeeter write about quidditch, I’ll never know.”
Rowena rolled her eyes as she took back the paper to see what had upset her friend. There, on the front page of the sports section, which, normally, Rowena avoided, was a picture of Oliver on the pitch in Puddlemere. She began reading the article.
The young Keeper has been on leave from the team for the past few weeks because of a reportedly mild knee injury. His team, and especially new Chaser, 20 year old Zaniah Wilkes, seems very happy at his return.
“Things just weren’t the same around here without Oliver.” Wilkes told this reporter with a bit of a giggle.
Rowena’s jaw dropped when she looked back at the picture and saw that a tall, slim blond had joined Oliver and had her arms around him, kissing him on the cheek. She went back and reread some of the article before dropping it on the table and turning back to Draco. “I didn’t know they could publish something that quickly.” She shook her head. “She’s going to kill him.”
Draco nodded slightly. “It makes sense though.” Rowena’s jaw dropped a little further, and she prepared to berate Draco for defending Oliver. “Did you notice her name?” He pointed back to the paper. “Wilkes. Her father was a deatheater. He died the first time around.” Draco took another look at the picture. “Bellatrix probably got her on the team.” He shook his head again and seemed like he was talking to himself. “Should have just told them about Haverty…” His thought was interrupted as an owl swooped down and landed in front of Rowena.
Azalea had reached the common room in record time, and managed to scare most of the people that had been there off as she exploded through the door. She’d spent the last few minutes pacing wildly in front of the fireplace, her mind running in a million different directions. Finally, one thought solidified in her head. She reached for the tiny jar that sat on the mantel and threw some of the Floo Powder into the flames. She stated the address of the flat her brother shared with Oliver. Alec, it seemed had been closer to the fire. “Where is he?” Azalea couldn’t hide the anger in her voice.
“I take it you saw the paper.” Alec rubbed his eyes wearily.
“Alec, where is he?” Her eyes narrowed. She was in no mood to have a brotherly, sisterly chat.
Alec continued rubbing his eyes. “Azalea, I think you’re overreacting.”
“Really?” She felt her cheeks get hotter and her eyes began to sting. Her own brother! “Well, I think he should have his balls cursed off.”
“Now I know you’re overreacting.” He took a sip of his coffee. “Did you even bother to look at who wrote that piece of trash?”
She continued to fume. “What does that matter? A picture says a thousand words, dear brother.”
He sighed heavily. “Sis, I wish I could explain this to you, but for now, just take my word for it. You have nothing to worry about when it comes to Zaniah. Believe me.”
“I seem to have to take everyone’s word on everything lately. It’d be nice if someone would just be honest with me for once.” Her voice was more bitter than angry. “I am of age, you know. I can tie my own shoes and everything!”
Alec finished off his coffee. “I’m sorry, I really am.” He set down his cup. “I’ll tell Oliver you called.”
“Don’t bother.” She pulled her head out of the fireplace without another word. She jumped and screamed as someone grabbed her shoulder. “Draco? What the hell?” She looked past him, and saw that he’d brought Rowena in with him.
“Thought you’d need a friend.” He said as he went toward the boys dorms.
“Well, that was unnaturally nice of him.” Azalea said quietly as she flopped onto the couch, avoiding the dirty look she got for her comment. “Why do I get the feeling you found something out while I was fuming?”
Rowena smiled a bit. “Because I did. She’s the daughter of a deatheater.”
“Oh, that makes me feel better.” Azalea rested her head on the back of the couch.
“It should. I think she’s part of his cover.” Rowena leaned across the table between them. “He wouldn’t do that to you.”
“I want to believe you.” Azalea leaned forward, putting her head in her hands.
“Well, look at it this way,” Rowena couldn’t help but smile. “Even Angsty Sues get their guy in the end.” She pulled a small envelope from her pocket. "Especially ones who have tickets to the quidditch finals."
Yay! Another Chapter!
Date: 2007-11-27 02:38 pm (UTC)I can't wait to find out how the hell I managed to get tickets to the Quidditch finals.
Now for the typos:
First paragraph: She finally got out of bed and get(got) dressed...
Somewhere in the middle: Rowena could(n't) tell if she was going to scream or cry.
And a bit further down: “Really?” She felt her cheeks get hotter and her eyes began to stink (I think you meant 'sting' lol ~_^
Not too bad for writing it while sleep deprived. I hope you got to bed earlier than I did (2:30 a.m.). *Hugs*
Oh, and, I really like this story alot. Can you please write some more?

Worth the wait. And yeah, I think Draco has a warm fuzzy center he's hiding under the Ice King routine. At least he does in my imagination. ;)
