Azalea’s pumpkin juice sprayed from her mouth like a fountain. “You what??” her eyes locked on Hyacinth, who, along with the other girls was trying not to laugh. “Oh that’s just….” Azalea shook her head to get the image of her friend with a Weasley out as fast as possible. “But wait, doesn’t that mean…”
Rowena anticipated the question. “We have to finish the sues. If all we had to do was start them up, yeah, we’d be home. But, as you pointed out a few days ago, these sues seem to be epic.” She sighed heavily and moved her breakfast around the plate a bit. She lifted her eyes as Draco and his pack moved down the aisle and the others caught a quick twinkle. “I am starting to think that Issobell might be right, though.”
“What?” Issobell looked a bit shocked. “Right about what?”
“Well, you’ve been saying all along that there were… advantages to sticking around.” Rowena barely covered a giggle. Issobell and Azalea shared a knowing glace. They’d both gotten past the giggling stage with their sues.
Azalea managed to successfully swallow a mouthful of pumpkin juice and spoke. “While I’m not disagreeing with you there, I still think we need to find out who cast the spell that got us here.”
“Yeah.” Hyacinth agreed reluctantly. “I’ve done a bit more reading up on it. It’s a really complicated spell.”
“So we aren’t looking for a student.” Rowena crinkled her brow a bit. “Then, a professor maybe? But why?” The girls exchanged blank stares while they finished their breakfasts. It was another beautiful morning, but none of them seemed eager to go outside. In fact, quite the opposite was true. Rowena and Hyacinth both seemed very content to dig through photo albums and letters and the like, finding out as much as they could about themselves and their respective relationships. Azalea and Issobell, both feeling a little guilty about ditching their friends the day before were eager to help. Rowena hauled an arm load of stuff to the Slytherin girls’ room, and they began to dig.
Azalea reached under Hyacinths bed, and pulled out a particularly large photo album. As she flipped it open, several pieces of parchment fell out. She set the book down and began picking up the pages, looking them over quickly. “Umm, Hyacinth?” She called the girls attention to the parchment. “I think you’ll want to take a look at these.” She handed the pile up to her friend. Sensing the same hesitation she had felt when discovering her own past, she tapped Issobell and Rowena. “I’m thirsty. Who’s up for a pumpkin juice?” She jerked her head toward the door. Rowena gathered up most of her own history, the girls left the room quickly and the last Hyacinth heard from them was Issobell complaining about the lack of decent coffee in this building.
Hyacinth had managed to pick up a few things about her and George just from their meeting in the woods, and from what she could tell, he really loved her. The feeling was mutual, that point she couldn’t argue, but a Weasley in love with a Slytherin? It seemed absurd. But there was only one way to find out. She took a deep breath and unfolded the first piece of parchment on the pile. The first thing that caught her attention was the date. October 2, 1995… That’s two and a half years ago! Hyacinth’s jaw dropped. She hadn’t imagined that this had been going on that long. The first letter had been George’s attempt to ask her out, and she had obviously said yes. The majority of letters were from after George and Fred had left Hogwarts, mostly notes on how things were going with the shop on Diagon Alley with some sweet, loving sentiments mixed in. Hyacinth continued to flip through the letters coming across more of the same. Finally she came to a letter that started to uncover something more. It was from just over a year earlier.
Tested the waters with Fred today. He told me I must have been knocked senseless to think of dating a Slytherin. I know he’s not exactly the best test for how the rest of the family will react, but…
There were several more letters telling of how George hadn’t yet told the rest of the Weasleys about their relationship. She sighed heavily, tucked the letters back into the photo album and dropped the book back onto her bed. “Great,” Hyacinth sighed and flopped back against her pillow. “I’m a Weasley’s dirty little secret.”
