Issobell didn’t knock this time as she reached Snape’s office door. She pushed it open; slightly surprised that it wasn’t warded. She was even more surprised when his silky voice floated through the room toward her. “Did you really think you’d get away with that, Miss Widdershins?”
She stood, slightly confused for a moment. “Get away with what? Opening the door?” She took a few more steps into the room letting her eyes adjust to the dim light.
“You know what I’m talking about.” He stepped out of the shadows. “Which one of you managed to get Potter’s cloak?”
“Azalea.” Issobell’s courage melted. “How…” before she asked the question, she knew the answer. Snape was, after all, an accomplished Legilimens and he no doubt picked up on a stray thought or two. “Do the others know?”
“I have no intention of telling Mr. Malfoy, or the Gryffindors, but I think it would be safe for you to assume that Dumbledore was aware of your presence.” He grabbed hold of her arms and she was sure he was going to throw her out again. His grip tightened slightly as their eyes locked. “Why can’t you make this easy for both of us?”
“Because,” Issobell leaned in a little. “I don’t give up.” She couldn’t help but smile. “Whatever you have to do, I’m sure it won’t be pleasant.” She began the speech she’d been rehearsing in her head. “You’ll need a distraction now and then.” She leaned in further. “I can help you.” Her lips pressed against his gently. When she tried to deepen the kiss, he pulled back.
“I won’t change my mind, Issobell.” He didn’t move back any further and Issobell took that as a good sign. “I will not have you dragged into this.”
“Severus,” she sighed, “Did it ever occur to you that I don’t want to be dragged into anything? That maybe, I’m not here just for information or to drag some secret from you?” He stared at her for a long moment, and she thankfully had meant every word she’d said. “That maybe I’m here because I’m… I’m worried about you?”
He seemed rather startled by this, but he quickly regained his control. “Issobell,” his velvety voice revealed a bit more emotion than usual, “I cannot allow you to do this.”
“What are you trying to protect me from?” Her temper began to rise within her. She had managed to break every rule they had set out when this had began, calling him ‘Severus’, admitting any sort of emotional attachment, but she was well past caring, and it seemed, so was he.
He let out a dry, humorless laugh. “What am I protecting you from?” He shook his head. “You are aware of what I have been, my dear. Surely you and your friends have put things together by now.”
She dropped her gaze to the floor. “I can guess…”
“Believe me, Issobell, whatever you’ve guessed, the reality is much worse.” As if by instinct, he pulled her closer. “You do not want to know what I am protecting you from.”
“Fine then.” She lifted her eyes to his. “Protect me. But what about you? Don’t you get to have anything in your life that isn’t scary and horrible?” She hesitantly touched his cheek. “I think you’ve earned me.” He pulled her forward again, and their lips crashed together. This time there was no protest when Issobell deepened the kiss. He tore off her clothes with the same reckless abandon as ever, but when he had her at his mercy, he stopped, his eyes locked to hers. She smiled slightly, and silently assured him that he didn’t have to say another word. She already knew what he was thinking. With that affirmation, his robes joined hers on the floor and he took her in his arms. Their lips collided with all the passion that both had glossed over every time they’d been together.
Snape pushed her back slowly toward his desk. He only broke the kiss long enough to carelessly fling everything from the desk and to lift Issobell onto it. Before she could catch her breath, he was on her, his hands roaming freely across her body and finding every inch of skin that made her shiver or gasp. Her nails dug into his back as he finally plunged into her. His pace was slow, as if he were savoring each and every sensation, and every reaction he got from her. His lips kissed and sucked at her throat as her body tensed around him. His climax neared as she moaned and shivered under him. Their lips met again as he came and she swallowed the moans he let escape in that perfect moment.
They stayed there on the desk, connected for far longer than they ever had before. Finally, he looked down at her, their eyes locking once more. With surprising tenderness he swept a strand of hair from her face. “I do not deserve you.” He said quietly.
She smiled and pulled him into another deep kiss. “Yes, you do.”
