The girls plopped themselves down for breakfast, Azalea and Issobell still yawning. “Aren’t you even going to try to find out what’s going on with you and Snape?” Rowena’s voice caused Issobell to look up from her plate and shake her head.

“What’s the point? I mean, think about it. If you’re sleeping with a teacher,” she lowered her voice slightly, “are you going to keep evidence lying around in your room where any of your ever so trustworthy roommates could find it?” Her eyes followed Pansy Parkinson as she and her twittering girlfriends walked by.

“Even if she found something,” Azalea yawned again as she lifted her glass to her lips, “We could always threaten to tell the whole school that she snores like a walrus in heat.”

Hyacinth nodded and leaned back toward Rowena. “We’ve actually had to cast a silencing spell around her bed once she falls asleep, just so we can get some rest.” Giggles broke out between all of them but were quickly interrupted by the owls flying through the Great Hall and dropping mail to nearly everyone. Hyacinth’s face flushed as she looked at the letter in front of her. She mutter a quick ‘excuse me’ and took off to their dorm room to read her mail, a very wide grin plastered across her face. Her friends exchanged smiles and dug back into their breakfast.

Azalea and Rowena both dove head first into their copies of the Daily Prophet and Issobell dug through letters from her family. “Hmm…” Rowena’s voice cut through the relative quiet.

“Hmm? Hmm what?” Azalea put down her copy of the Prophet and leaned over to look at Rowena’s.

Issobell leaned as far as she could over the table to try to catch a glimpse of what the other two were reading. She finally gave up and grabbed Azalea’s copy. “What page?”

“Five.” Rowena said absently as she continued to read. Issobell flipped to a page filled with tiny little articles, some barely visible to the naked eye. Obviously, these were stories the editor thought barely rated printing. In this tiny print was something sinister.

Several Deatheaters Still at Large
Rumors have been flying that some of He Who Must Not Be Named’s followers have escaped capture by the Ministry’s best Aurors. It has been said that the Order of the Phoenix has been pursuing these fugitives but those rumors have been denied, not only by the Ministry but by Hogwarts Head Master Albus Dumbledore who it seems had lead the Order…

It went on for another line or two about how Harry Potter had killed Voldemort, but the girls seemed to have read enough. “Well,” Rowena sighed as she put the paper down, “at least that has nothing to do with us.” Something in her voice seemed shaky though, as if she didn’t really believe that the story didn’t have anything to do with them.

Issobell shook her head slightly as she lowered the paper she was holding. “Right,” She looked up and smiled unconvincingly. “Absolutely nothing.”

Azalea, who, as far as she could tell was the only one at the table that could have been fairly sure of such a statement, said nothing. All three girls felt as if a knot in their stomachs had just been tightened as they each tried to force down another bite of breakfast in silence. They were packing up for class when Hyacinth rejoined them with a confused look on her face. “This is strange…” Hyacinth held the letter out to the others, and Rowena passed the Prophet to her. As Hyacinth searched for the tiny article, the other girls read the unusually short note from George.

Will be at Hogwarts tonight. Won’t have time to see you. Sorry.

Before anyone could question or comment, a voice rose from the crowd. “Haverty!” Azalea turned to see Malfoy hurrying toward the doors. “Practice is cancelled tonight.”

“Why?” But before she could get an answer he had disappeared. Azalea turned back to the girls, quickly glancing up at the teachers table. Both Snape and Oliver had already left. Her frown deepened. “What the hell is going on here?”

“I don’t know.” Issobell tore her eyes from the copy of the Prophet still sitting on the table. “But they’re all going to be here tonight…” She spoke slowly and quietly, “I’d bet tonight would be our chance to find out.”

“Alright.” Rowena said confidently. “If this does have something to do with the Order, then they’ll meet after curfew.”

“And probably in Dumbledore’s office.” Azalea added almost to herself.

“Right then…” Hyacinth sighed. “Who’s got an invisibility cloak?”
