Chapter Fifteen:  Something in the Air…

This was a first.

Bobby was late.  Morgan swiveled nervously in the leather chair, skimming her palms over the polished surface of the conference table.  He was always on time.

She wasn’t sure she was allowed in here.  She’d had to split to get into the locked room.  She drummed the table impatiently.  Where was he?

“Stop that.”  Faye snapped at her, appearing in the chair across the table from her.  “That drives me nuts.”

“Then why don’t you just go back to wherever it is you go?”  Morgan slumped back in her chair and checked her watch for the fifth time.

“He wants both of us.”

“Doesn’t matter if he stands us up.”

“He’s not going to stand us up.”

“How do you know?”

Faye merely gave her the “village idiot” look and crossed her arms.  Just then, the door behind Morgan slid aside with a hiss.

“Sorry I’m late.”  Bobby slipped through the door and Morgan swiveled her chair to meet him.  “Something came up.”  Behind her, Faye vanished.

“I was about to give up on you.”  Morgan didn’t rise from her seat; waiting instead for him to give her the instructions she knew were coming.  He didn’t usually waste time.  And they didn’t have that much.  If she was late for her training session with Remy, he’d come looking for her eventually.

He walked around her to sit on the edge of the table.  He studied her long enough that she began to get uncomfortable.  At least this time, there was a closed door and no one to hear them.  She crossed her legs nervously.

“You know we don’t have much time before someone comes looking.”  She finally couldn’t take it anymore.  “So what is it this time?”

“We’re going to talk.”

“Talk?”  Morgan sat up a little in her seat, the nervous flutter in her belly suddenly becoming a lump of ice.  “We don’t talk.”

“You said whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted.  I want to talk.  Now.”  He was giving her the same look he used to give her in class when he’d catch her and Dare fooling around instead of paying attention.

“All right.  Talk.”  Morgan sat back and crossed her arms.

“I just had a little chat with your team mate, Jehnna.  She thinks I’m taking advantage of you.  What do you think?”

“I didn’t tell her that.”

“She said you were crying after I left you in the library.”  He shifted a little.  “Were you?”

“I don’t cry over men.”  Morgan mumbled, not looking at him.  “I shouldn’t have told her anything.”

“Look at me.”  He reached over and tipped her face up with one hand.  “Were you crying or not?”

“Fuck you, Drake.  Since when do you want to talk to me?” She flinched away from him.  “All I’m good for is fucking, right?  Whenever, whatever way you want. Most guys at least pretend they like me when they want in my panties.”

“You know what, Morgan?  You scare me.  You really do.”  He stood up and began pacing around the room.  “You pull that stunt…You know that would have gotten me fired from most places, right?  You make me this crazy deal, when you hardly even know me.  For some reason, I take it…No.  I know the reason…”

He stopped and turned back to her.

“The reason was...I was angry.  Have you got any idea how hard it’s been to get Scott and Jean, and even the Professor, to see me as a responsible adult?  To them I’m still the smart ass kid on the team.  Doesn’t matter that a half dozen kids like Jubilee and Kitty come along, I’m still that kid!”  His palm slapped down on the table hard enough to make her jump.

“No, I didn’t…”

“I’m not done.”  His tone was icy.  “Just one moment alone with you in the kitchen…Scott tore into me that night.  Then Jean scolded me like I was her kid brother.  Logan’s been staring daggers at me all week.  Now I’ve got your team mates threatening me!”

“Jehnna threatened you?”

“You know, Morgan, the way you tease men, you’re going to get into trouble.  Four years of winks and smiles and those skimpy little skirts.  Did you know I still have all those little notes you used to slip into my desk?  Yours and the ones from other little girls like you, but you were the worst.”

“I’m sorry…”

“You scare me Morgan.  You have no idea how much trouble this kind of behavior could get you into.  Your powers won’t always protect you.  Especially if you won’t speak up if someone is mistreating you.”

“Now you’re going to go all ‘teacher’ on me!?!  After you’ve spent the last four days fucking me all over the damned school?  And I never said you were mistreating me.  Ever.”

“I’ve been an ass.  I know.  Because I did it on purpose.  You used me, and I wanted you to get a taste of what that felt like.  But, I did think that you would speak up if it went too far.  That you didn’t…That I had to hear it from someone else…Now that really scares me.”  He was leaning over her chair now, hands on the arm rests.

“You…”  Morgan fumbled for something to say.  “You were being a dick to get back at me?”

That seemed to bring him up short, as if he was surprised that he’d said it.  He stood up and returned to his original position, perched on the edge of the table.

“Yeah.  I really didn’t think you’d put up with it this long.”  His anger seemed to drain away.  “And once I started…I don’t know…”

“But you still fucked me.”

“I know.    I wasn’t kidding Morgan.  I’ve wanted you since you started waving your little fifteen year old ass at me.  It was my first year teaching here and I wasn’t all that much older than you kids.  I used to lock myself in my room and read those notes.  Fantasize about what I’d do with you…where I’d do it.”

“You jerked off to my notes?”  That was teetering somewhere between cute and creepy.  Morgan wasn’t sure which side of the equation it would land on.  “And we’ve been…Damn, Bobby!”

“The point is…Another man might have taken you up on that offer.  Back then, when you were just fifteen or sixteen.”

“You didn’t.  And I’m not fifteen or sixteen anymore.”

“You aren’t as mature as you think, or we wouldn’t be having this conversation.”  Bobby crossed his arms over his chest and looked down for a moment.  “Do you want to end this now?”

“I made a deal.  I’m not backing out.”

“You don’t have to do anything you don’t want.  I’m not going to hold you to it.  This game’s gone too far.”  Bobby rose from his seat.  “I’ll tell Scott and Jean I broke it off with you.”

“You don’t have to do that.  I’m good.”

“You’re kidding.”  He looked at her incredulously.

“No.  I’m not.  Drop the asshole act and I’m all yours.  For the rest of the week.”  She paused for a moment.  “And no more of this sneaking around and almost getting caught shit.  You want me, you find us some privacy.”

“All right.  Tell you what.  I’ll take you out tonight.  Dinner, maybe a movie.  We’ll see how the night ends.”

“I think we already know.”

“Well, you see, as an accountant, I feel I should let you know that you haven’t been using your assets as effectively as you could be.”

“Excuse me?”

“I’m pretty sure I owe you a steak dinner or two.”

“Oh…Well then, it’s probably more like half a dozen.”

“We’ll negotiate over dinner.”

“You’re going out?  With Drake?”  Dare sat on the bed watching Morgan sort through her closet.

“Yeah.”  Morgan’s reply was muffled as she pulled a dress over her head.  “I’ve been playing love slave for him all week and I figure he owes me at least a good steak.”

“That’s where you’ve been running off to?”  Dare scowled, not sure she liked having the rumors confirmed.  “He’s a teacher.”

“You’re one to talk.”  Morgan smoothed her skirt into place over her hips.  “You and Remy still going hot and heavy?”

“You could say that…Supposed to meet him after dinner.  He said something about taking a walk under the stars.”  Morgan gave her a funny look.  “And he’s not really a teacher.  Drake is.”

“So?  I’ve done a teacher before.”  Morgan shrugged.

“Not publicly.”  Something about this wasn’t quite right, but Dare couldn’t seem to figure it out.

“Kurt is different.  He’d be mortified…”  Morgan turned her back with a little bounce of impatience.  “Zip me?”  She pulled her hair over her shoulder and waited.

Dare stood close behind her and began to slide the zipper upwards.  Much slower than was necessary.

“I guess I’ve been pretty busy with Remy.”  She leaned close to brush her lips against the back of Morgan’s neck.  “This thing with Drake seems a little over the top, even for you.”  Zipper now fully closed, she slid her arms around the shorter girl’s waist and pulled her close.

“Been a long time coming.  School girl crush and all.  Never knew he wanted me, too.”  This close, she could tell there was something her friend wasn’t saying.  But what was it?  She dropped several light kisses across Morgan’s shoulders and the girl shivered.

“You sure you’re not missing me?  I don’t have to spend all my time with Remy.”

“Of course I miss you.”  Morgan covered Dare’s hands with her own and squeezed a little.  “Bobby’s just another guy in the end.  No man has ever held my heart.”

“Still, seems like you’ve been a little off lately.”  Dare rested her chin on her friend’s shoulder.

“Just kind of weird seeing you with Remy.”  Morgan cleared her throat and straightened up, pulling free of the embrace.  “Never seen you like this before.  Not that it’s bad, just different.  Almost sappy.”

“Speaking of sappy, I’ve got to show you something.”  Dare rummaged in her pocket for a folded piece of paper.  “You know that roomie of mine is going to drive me stark raving mad.  ‘Angel this…and Angel that…’ and you should read what she’s been writing in that journal!”  Dare unfolded the paper and looked at it.

“You didn’t!”  Morgan looked shocked.  “Dare!”

“I didn’t tear it out.  I smuggled the book over to the copier when she was having her session with Angel and Summers.  Come on, read it.”  She offered the paper to Morgan, who took it gingerly.  “If it weren't so fucking hot, I'd cram it down her throat!"

She watched as Morgan’s eyes traveled over the page, growing wider and wider.  They reached the bottom then returned to the top to read again.

“See, what’d I tell you?  Girl’s got it bad for golden boy there.”

“Wow.  All I can say is…Wow.”  Morgan’s cheeks were flushed.  “But, you really shouldn’t have.  Jehnna would flip out if she knew.”  She tried to hand the paper back.

“All for a good cause, partner in crime.”  Dare crossed her arms, refusing to take it back.

“What crime?”  Morgan stood, hand still outstretched with the note, a skeptical look on her face.

“A little breaking and entering.  Only you’re gonna leave something instead of steal it.”

“You’re crazy.”  Morgan waved the note at her impatiently.  “Jehnna would die of embarrassment.”

“Or…She might actually get laid.  I think that would do wonders for ‘Miss Doom and Gloom.’”

“Like it did for you?”

“I had you…But yeah, I feel like spreading the love.  Just don’t tell her it was me.”

“Didn’t say I was going to do it.”  Morgan put her hands on her hips and scowled.  Looked kind of cute and Dare debated telling her just that.

“You will.”  Dare raised her fist in a mocking salute.  “Go team.  Go!”

“Christ on a crutch!  It’s the Apocalypse!”  Morgan mimed ducking for cover and giggled.  “I’ll think about it.  Now I’ve got to go meet Bobby in the garage.”  She stuffed the paper into the drawer of her nightstand and hurried off.

“She’ll do it.”  Dare smirked and let herself out of the room to head downstairs for dinner.

Dare didn’t bother to tell the others about Morgan’s date.  Instead, she quietly bet herself that they’d hear it through the grapevine before she got back from her walk with Remy.  No privacy at all in this place, really.  Without Morgan here to play referee, her team mates were getting on her nerves.

Haley kept speculating about when Piotr would get back.  Jehnna was moping over how Summers was nitpicking everything she did.  And Roxxy was actually reading at the table, somehow managing to get her food into her mouth without looking at it.  Dare tossed in a few comments here and there while watching Remy at the “staff table.”  After all the bitching that went on over that kiss outside, they had agreed not to be too “demonstrative” in front of the other students.

When Remy rose and sauntered out of the dining room she nodded to her friends and got up to follow him.  Down the hall and out the back onto the patio.  Dare let the door close quietly behind her.

“De stars are lovely tonight.  Remy a city boy, but you don’ get to see dem like dis wit’ all de lights.”

“No.  I guess you don’t.”  Dare came to a stop beside him where he stood looking up at the sky.  “They are kind of pretty.”  They really were.  The air was just cool enough to be comfortable and the stars looked crisp and clean against the dark sky.

“Come, petit.  We take a walk, enjoy de stars.”  He slipped an arm around her waist and gave her a little squeeze before leading her down the patio steps and onto the lawn.  The moon’s crescent cast a silver reflection on the still surface of the pool as they walked by it.

He guided her away from the Mansion onto a wide dirt path that led into the surrounding trees.  The path wound lazily back and forth further and further from the lights and sounds of the school.  Dare slowly became aware of the gentle breeze between the trees and the soft chirping of unseen insects.

“Where are we going?”

“Jus’ someplace private.  Away from all dem.”  She could barely see the way he gestured with his chin back toward the Mansion.  “Remy want you all to himself tonight.”

“You’ve got me.”  Dare slipped an arm of her own around his waist, enjoying the warm feel of him.  “Morgan’s out on a date and the others hardly noticed that I left.”

“Who she goin’ wit’ dis time?”

“Drake.”

“Dis truth?”  He peered down at her in the darkness.  “Heard de rumors, hopin’ she got better sense than to stir things up.”

“It’s true.”   Dare sighed.  “Told me herself.”

“You don’t approve?”

“No.”  Dare shrugged.  “But I don’t really have a say in it.”

“Oui.”  He stopped her now.  The trees had opened up into a little garden, hidden in the wood.  The air was filled with the scent of late blooming flowers and a vine covered gazebo sat in the center.

“I didn’t know this was here.”  Dare looked around curiously.

“Dere several places like dis on de grounds.  Someplace we can sit and enjoy de night.”  He turned to her now and touched her face with his fingertips.  A little thrill passed through her as she felt him.  Right there.  In her head, where no one but Morgan had ever been.  Until him.  “You even lovelier den de stars, cher.  Can see dem in your eyes.”

He wanted to kiss her, she could feel it.  She met him half way, her mouth opening to him and accepting the sensual caress of his tongue and lips.  The spicy scent of his cologne, the warmth of his body, the touch of his hand on the small of her back…God, she wanted him.  Wanted him bad enough to drag him to the ground right then and there.

But she didn’t.  Instead she let him lead her towards the gazebo, lips and hands never quite leaving her.  Sure hands guided her up the steps that were nearly invisible in the darkness.  Strong arms sat her down on the bench.  The long, lean body she wanted so much to touch again settled down beside her.  He slipped an arm around her and pulled her close.

He surprised her then by leaning down to grab something on the floor beside the bench.  A bottle of wine?  A quick flash of his teeth as he smiled at her and reached a second time to produce a pair of wine glasses.  He offered one to her.

“Planned ahead did you?”  Dare couldn’t help but chuckle.

“Oui.”  He proceeded to pour them each a glass of the rich red wine before returning the bottle to its hiding spot.  “Remy been lookin’ forward to dis.  Not long before it too cold to enjoy a night like dis.”

“Not complaining.  It’s a good idea.”  Dare sipped at the wine, enjoying the feel of his arm around her.  They sat in comfortable silence for a while listening to the night.  When Dare’s glass was empty, he took it from her and set it aside, along with his own.  He turned to her again and even in the dark, she could feel the heat of his gaze.

“I want to show you what it like to make love under de stars.”  He leaned close to catch her lips in a teasing kiss, his lips tasting of wine.  When she tried to return the kiss, his mouth slid away from hers, brushing her jaw on its way to her neck.  Light nibbling kisses set her to shivering in his embrace.

“Remy…”  She moaned as he pulled her closer.  Slowly, his mouth worked its way from her neck back to her own.  He then proceeded to plunder her mouth with the same deliberate slowness until she was squirming in his arms.  He chuckled quietly and pulled away from her.  “What?”

“A moment, cher.  Patience.”  He stood and took her hand to pull her from the bench.  Then he pulled the thin cushion from it and set it on the wooden floor of the gazebo.  Bending down, he reached into the shadows beneath the bench to pull out a heavy blanket.

“So I’m a sure thing, huh?”  Dare snorted.

“Remy jus’ believe in being prepared.  It a long walk back.”  He spread the blanket out over the pad.  “But if you want, we stick to star gazing tonight.”  He sat down on the blanket and reached a hand up to pull her down.

Dare let herself be pulled down to sit in his lap.  He wound his arms around her and nuzzled at her neck, teeth nibbling gently.  She shivered a little.

“No.  I think I’ve had enough star gazing for the moment.”

“Good.”  Then his hands and mouth were moving, kissing and touching her with teasing thoroughness.  She was so lost in his kisses that she hardly registered when he began to strip off her clothes until he slipped her from his lap to lay on the blanket.  The night air was cool against her bare skin as he deftly removed the last of her clothing.  Through it all, he continued to kiss and touch her until her whole body seemed to tingle.

Finally, he pulled away and looked at her for a moment, his lips curved in a smile that was barely visible in the near darkness.  Then he began to strip off his own clothing, the moon’s light picking out the lean, muscular planes of his body.  She watched appreciatively, enjoying the sight of him.  But he felt even better when he stretched out beside her and pulled her close.

Now they touched one another, slowly kissing and caressing.  He seemed intent on touching every part of her, from the tips of her toes to the hair on her head and every part in between.  She tried to be just as thorough, enjoying the feel of his body and the quiet sighs and moans he made in response to her caresses.  She could feel him in her head as well, could feel the silent prompting.  Touch me here.   Kiss me there.  Slowly.

Inevitably, the tension built.  Slowly and gently, until they found themselves joined, moving together.  The lazy tempo continued, as they paused time and again to simply kiss or touch one another.  A cool breeze wafted through the open walls of the gazebo, carrying Dare’s cries into the night as she shuddered against him.  She sensed his response to it, knew he had felt it just as she felt him inside her head.  Twice more he brought her to the pinnacle before he finally sought his own release.

Sensing the new purpose in him, she held him closer, touching and stroking him.  Kissing and nibbling at him as he murmured in French.  His voice was warm and rich in her ears and she spared a moment’s thought to wonder what he said.  Then all thought vanished when he reached the point of no return, pulling her close with a shuddering groan.  His climax echoed through her mind even as he spent himself inside her body.

It had never been any better than this.  Not even with Morgan.  Dare snuggled into him while he pulled the blanket around them both.  Dare sighed contentedly.  She hoped Morgan was enjoying her evening as much as she was.  Then she forgot all about Morgan when he kissed her again…
