She’d been standing in front of the house for nearly five minutes. She’d completely lost her nerve, and was now feeling very silly for being here. She’d gone home first from the Slytherin common room to change out of her school uniform, knowing her parents would be at their ‘weekend home’. Mussy, the Haverty family house elf had been terribly concerned that she’d come home unexpectedly and had made her some tea and some sweets because she looked so distraught. After she’d finished and she’d thanked Mussy with a smile, she apparated to the street Alec and Oliver lived on, and that’s where she continued to be. Finally, she took a deep breath, climbed the steps and rang the bell. She nearly fainted when the door opened.

“Can I help you?” Zaniah Wilkes had made herself at home it seemed.

It took a few seconds for Azalea to collect herself, and once she had, every ounce of Slytherin Pureblood Heiress that was in her came out. “I’m here to see my brother. Is Alec in?” Icicles practically dripped from her voice.

“Hey kiddo!” Alec rounded a corner and hurried to get between Zaniah and his sister. “What are you doing here?” He asked quietly.

“I can’t come down to see my brother during my holidays?” She smiled sweetly as she kissed his cheek. Then she lowered her voice. “Is he here?” Alec nodded almost unnoticeably. Azalea reapplied her smile and swept into the sitting room where Zaniah was making herself even more comfortable.

“I was just getting us some tea.” Alec closed the door, slightly dumbfounded. “Would you like some, Azalea?” She nodded and smiled. Alec reluctantly left the two women in the room alone.

“Alec didn’t tell us you were visiting.” Zaniah started to speak to her in a distinctly patronizing tone. “Aren’t you supposed to be at school? You’re in your, what? Fifth year?”

“Seventh.” Azalea moved further into the room.

“Oh yes, Alec said something about exams, so I just assumed.”

“So,” Azalea’s smile didn’t falter as she sat herself down next to Zaniah on the couch. “You’re the new chaser.” The blond opened her mouth to respond, but Azalea didn’t give her a chance. “I’m surprised Aunt Bellatrix would allow someone like you into the organization. It’s obvious,” Azalea raked her eyes over the blond, “you aren’t there because of your talents, or at least not your quidditch talents.” Azalea continued to smile as Zaniah gaped at her.

“My father was very… involved in your aunt’s activities last time around.” She finally managed to stutter out. “I’m sure she wants people around that she can trust.” Zaniah’s back straightened, thinking that she’d put one over on this school girl.

Azalea let out a small chuckle. “Your father…” She had no idea where this knowledge was coming from, but she went with it. “You father was little more than a half-blood buffoon. One who apparently couldn’t carry out the simplest of deeds without getting himself killed.” She bent forward taking a small biscuit from the dish on the coffee table and taking a small bite. Then a smile that would have made her aunt Bellatrix proud crossed her face. “Tell me, did he manage to spawn any more mongrel whores? Or is it just you?”

Zaniah leapt to her feet. “Alec! Oliver!” her screeching was ear piercing. When both men came through the door, she began to rage. “Do you know what this… this bitchy little brat said to me? I have never been so…” She dramatically wiped a tear from her eye. When neither of the men made any move to comfort her. “I will see you both again once that… thing is out of your house!” And with that she let herself out.

“Good Christ, Lea, what did you say to her?” Oliver pushed past Alec, who it seemed had decided to stay a safe distance from his sister at the moment. He’d seen the smile on her face as Zaniah had screamed and yelled, and it could only mean one thing. Azalea was here for blood.

“Being a bit protective of someone I’m… how did you put it, Alec? Oh, yes, someone I’m not supposed to be worried about!” Azalea’s eyes flashed angrily as Alec raised his hands, turned away and left the room. She turned back to Oliver. “Did you think I wouldn’t see it? Did you think that I wouldn’t find out? I came here to let you explain, and she answers your door!” the volume of her voice grew as she spoke. “I can’t believe I was stupid enough to believe…” her voice faltered on her, betraying the one thing she didn’t want to show. She could be angry, cold, vengeful, but be damned if she’d let him see that he’d hurt her.

“Lea, please, just calm down and let me explain.” He reached out, taking her shoulders. She flinched and pushed him back.

“Don’t touch me.” She took a few steps back from him. “You can’t just charm your way out of this!” She looked him in the eye. “I want the truth, Oliver. All of it, about everything. I can’t just sit back and take everyone’s word on everything anymore. I just can’t. So either I get the whole story, or I walk out that door and you never see me again.” She wasn’t yelling anymore. It felt like all the violent anger had melted, leaving her with little more than a cold empty feeling inside. “I know what she is. I know what’s going on behind the scenes with the team. I know quite a bit more than you’ve given me credit for.” He sat down in one of the high backed chairs that littered the room, and let his head fall into his hands. “So the real questions here are simple ones. Why didn’t you trust me enough to tell me the truth?”

He cut her off. “I do trust you.”

“No, you don’t. You can say it all you want, Oliver, but you’ve never proved it to me.” She looked down at the floor for a moment, gulping back a stream of tears. “And the second question is, if you needed an in with Bellatrix, why not just tell her the truth? Why use her?”

He sighed. “I didn’t want any of this to get to you. I just want you to be safe.” He looked up at her. “I love you, Lea.”

“Oliver, you know what my family is. You know what my father is. I don’t think there is anything you can do to keep me completely sheltered from all this.” She choked on her sob, trying desperately to keep herself together. “And even if there was, do you really think I’d let you? I thought you knew me better than that. But we still have a problem.”

“There is nothing going on with Zaniah, Lea. I swear to you, that picture… she practically tackled me.”

Azalea raised her hand, asking him to let her finish. “I’m not worried about her, I can take care of her.” He couldn’t help but wonder what she meant by that. “Our problem is you don’t trust me.”

He ran his hands through his hair. “What can I do to prove it to you?” He got up, taking her by the shoulders again. This time, she didn’t pull away. He took that as a good sign. “I’ll do anything.”

“No more secrets.” Her eyes locked on his as he nodded. “I want to know everything about this mission of yours.” He opened his mouth to protest. “Do they trust you yet?”

“To some extent, I think.” He seemed a little shocked by her demeanor, he’d rarely seen her so focused. She obviously had something in mind. “Alec’s word has helped I’m sure.”

“Bellatrix never really liked Alec…” Azalea started to pace slowly, a plan forming in her head. “But she liked me. Dad took me to visit her in Azkaban when I was small. Pulled some strings I guess. I barely remember it.” She was talking more to herself now.

“Lea, whatever you’re planning…” Oliver turned to see Alec standing in the doorway.

“Alec, don’t you see? Dad was always grooming me to be the perfect little pureblood princess… he loved showing me off to all the Deatheaters.” Azalea’s eyes caught fire again, but this time it wasn’t anger, it was excitement. “When’s the next meeting?”

“Later this week.”

“Alec!” Oliver’s jaw dropped. “Are you completely mad?”

“She’ll figure it out, Oliver.” Alec smiled at his sister. “And she’s right. She was the chosen one in our family. Her word will mean a hell of a lot more than mine.”

Azalea took his hand. “You said you’d do anything to prove that you trust me. I’m coming with you. If you really love and trust me, and you want to prove it, you’ll help me help you.” She smiled, “and you’ll stay the hell away from dumb blond bimbos.”
