Rowena rubbed her eyes sleepily. Azalea and Issobell had given up flipping through photo albums and such and had gone to the Great Hall for dinner to see if Hyacinth had emerged from their room with any more information. Rowena had, however not felt like giving up just yet and she had dragged the mountain of books back up to Ravenclaw tower and her dorm room.
Not a single picture, not a single note in the massive collection pointed to any kind of… anything with Draco. She sighed heavily and threw herself back onto her bed, knocking a few albums onto the floor in the process. She looked over the side of the bed and noticed, for the first time, in the fading light that something under there had a faint slivery glow to it. She frowned slightly. How had she not noticed it before? She quickly reasoned that whatever it was, it had been hidden behind and beneath all the books she’d been sifting through. Suddenly rejuvenated, she hopped off the bed and bent down for a closer look.
“Oh for…” She stopped herself from cursing and reached out for the small finely crafted object. A pensieve! She shook her head and set it on the bed, momentarily watching the fine silver memories float around inside it before she noticed something hanging off the side. It was a tiny very decorative card with her name printed in ornate golden writing. She flipped it open and read the short message:
Don’t forget. DM
She smiled slightly to herself. She knew that in the pensieve was everything she’d been searching for. She took a deep breath and leaned over the bowl. Suddenly a hallway appeared before her. It was somewhere in Hogwarts, but she couldn’t tell much more before she began to fall into the memory. She spun around to see herself approaching, looking slightly nervous and more than a little suspicious. That’s when she saw it. The tapestry of Barnabas the Barmy and his ballerina trolls. Her memory self, didn’t seem to have a clue though. She stood in the hallway, waiting for someone, and leaning right on the spot in the wall where the door to the Room of Requirement would appear. Both versions of Rowena turned as the sound of footsteps echoed from down the hall.
“You’re early.” A familiar voice, sounding slightly impressed, sounded from the shadows.
“What do you want, Draco?” Rowena took a few steps toward him. “Why did you want to meet here?”
“So you don’t know?” She looked confused and he laughed a little. He stepped into the light and took her hand. “Let me show you.” He motioned for her to step aside and he began pacing in front of the blank wall. Rowena gasped as the door appeared. Draco pulled it open and reached out a hand for her. “Coming?” She hesitated, but only for a moment. The ‘real’ Rowena had to hurry to follow them inside.
“What is this place?” The memory Rowena looked around at the room which had turned into a comfortable little chamber with a warm fire, a small table for two, and an amazingly ornate bed.
“That’s not important.” Draco sat down at the table and Rowena followed his lead. He reached across and took her hand again. “We both know why I asked you here.” She blushed. “You aren’t like the others.”
“The other whats?” She raised an eyebrow hesitantly.
“The other girls in our year.” He smiled slightly. “Especially considering…”
“That I’m a Ravenclaw?” She smiled back.
He nodded. “I never thought I could…” She began to notice that he was nervous. “I mean, there would be some complications…”
“Draco, what exactly are you trying to say?” Rowena’s smile grew slightly.
“I… I care for you, Rowena.” His eyes locked on hers, making her blush. “But…”
“But, as you said, it would be complicated.” She lowered her eyes. “My family isn’t much higher on the pure blood food chain than the Weasleys. I can’t imagine what your parents…”
“Let me deal with them.” Draco tipped her face to his again.
“And has anyone in Slytherin ever dated someone outside their own house?” She laughed quietly.
“It’s happened once or twice.” Draco smirked momentarily but it quickly faded. “We’d have to keep it a secret… for now.” Rowena nodded sadly, and an awkward silence filled the room as neither of them seemed to know what to say next. Finally, Rowena looked into his eyes again. She didn’t say a word as she rose from the table and pressed her lips softly to Draco’s. His hand slid around her waist, pulling her down into his lap as he deepened the kiss. Slowly, they worked their way over to the bed and just as the ‘real’ Rowena felt herself being pulled from the memory, she heard Draco whisper to her, “I need you.”
She opened her eyes to find herself exactly where she had started; in her dorm room, standing over the small basin full of memories. Slowly she slipped the pensieve back under the bed, dreamily wondering what other memories had been placed in there. For now, she thought, she’d have to go tell the girls what she had discovered… later she’d see what else her new found treasure had in store for her.
