The war was over, Time Compression was a danger that lived only in the back of people's minds, and the Sorceress Ultimecia was only living in the pages of the new history books. That was the basic consensus of the people in power throughout the many cities and countries of Ultimecia's world.
Ten years ago, a group of teenage warriors saved the world from the Sorceress Ultimecia and her plans for world domination. Squall Leonhart led the team of SeeD - the elite mercenary force based at Balamb Garden - in the epic battle, almost losing them in the process.
Ultimecia had planned on using Time Compression to rule the universe through the abilities of Ellone, an orphaned child protected by Laguna Loire, an ex-soldier-turned-journalist turned President of the most secretive and technologically advanced nation in the world. Through Ellone, she was able to merge the past, the present and the future into one time period, thus being able to destroy everyone who opposed her - or, she should have been able to, if SeeD hadn't thrown one hell of a wrench in her plan.
Squall Leonhart, with the help of Rinoa Heartilly, Quistis Trepe, Zell Dincht, Selphie Tilmitt, and Irvine Kinneas, stopped her before she was able to gain a foothold. That was ten years ago, and she wanted revenge.
Ultimecia was floating around Time Compression, where she brooded, planned, and watched the comings and goings of her enemies from mirrors. What she had seen in the past ten years, which felt more like one hundred years in Time Compression, gave her a small amount of hope that she would succeed where she had failed in the past.
It was one of the little idiosyncrasies of Time Compression: any reflective surface, be it a puddle of water or her silver bracelet, allowed her to watch what was going on anywhere in the world - or worlds, as the case may be. Currently, she was watching four people who were not from her world, and a plan was forming in her brain, one that would be next to impossible to stop.
The people who had stopped her before were scattered across the world, rarely talked to each other, and were generally trying their damnedest to forget her and the war. If it worked, she would make sure no one ever forgot her again.
Her evil laugh echoed through the castle she had stumbled across in the endless wanderings through her prison. She lounged on her throne and watched one of the four people she had planned on using for her own gain. Each of them had been gifted with an imagination that made it possible for her to get into their heads, and that made them more valuable to her than all of the magic in the universe.
The only thing left for her to do was set the spell and sleep until everything came to fruition. She was making a huge gamble on it, but if it worked, she would gain more than she ever thought possible: dominion over her world and that of the four victims she had her eye on.
