Azalea rushed out of the Slytherin common room stuffing her text book into her bag, cursing quietly to herself as she got out into the halls. They were practically deserted. “Great. Just great.” She was late. She cursed again and took off towards the Transfiguration classroom as fast as she could manage. Her mind raced, trying to figure out a better excuse for being late than ‘I’m sorry, Professor. I was a bloody moron and forgot my book’. As she ran up the stairs she was so annoyed with herself that she didn’t really notice the snap feeling. In fact, she barely noticed anything until a strong arm spun her around at the top of the stairs. She nearly screamed out, until she saw who had a hold of her. “Oliver?”

“We need to talk, Lea.” She felt a shiver go up her spine at his use of a nickname for her. She momentarily found herself wondering if everyone called her that, or if… She tried to shake off the feeling that he was the only one that called her ‘Lea’. She searched her brain for what exactly they would have to talk about, but the search was halted as he pulled her into a nearby broom closet.

“I… I have to get to class.” She stammered as he shut the door. Her heart pounded as he took a step closer to her.

“I’ll write you a note.” He brushed a loose strand of hair out of her face. “Things have gotten… complicated.”

Azalea, for the first time thanked whoever had control over her mouth. “Things were always complicated, Oliver.” She stepped back, and part of her wondered how long this had been going on, and why it was so complicated. Her speech however continued. “You didn’t do anything wrong. Your precious Gryffindor nobility is still intact.”

“Lea,” He reached out for her but she took another step back, “You know I wanted…”

“I have a class, Mr. Wood.” She managed to get around him and out of the closet. She had only taken a few steps toward Transfiguration when he got hold of her arm again.

“Your note.” He handed her a small piece of parchment. She felt her cheeks flush. She quietly thanked him and took off down the hallway. When she finally reached the classroom and had handed Professor McGonagall the note, she received a stern look and took her seat with the others. As soon as it was possible to talk to the girls, Azalea explained what had happened.

Hyacinth frowned slightly. “We need to find out as much about ourselves as possible.”

“I don’t think that’s our biggest problem right now!” Azalea waved her wand over the small lizard on her desk and turned it into a lovely cut crystal sherry glass. “By the sounds of things, this Sue is bloody epic! We could be stuck here far longer than we thought. We need to find a way out of here without...”

She stopped talking as Professor McGonagall walked over to take an appreciative look at the small glass. “Lovely pattern, Miss Haverty. Five points to Slytherin.”

“Thank you Professor.” The girls watched their teacher walk away to the next table. “We need to get out of here without completing the Mary Sue!” Azalea’s voice was low, but intense. The others nodded in agreement.

“I just have one question.” Issobell has a strange smirk on her face. “What is so wrong with having some fun while we’re here?”

“Easy for you to say. You aren’t stuck with an Angsty Sue.” Azalea  prepared to wave her wand again and changed the glass back into a lizard, when Rowena picked it up and looked carefully at the pattern again.

“So you think this will be the one you register for?” Azalea looked at her friend, confused by the question. “You know, when you become Mrs. Oliver Wood.” The girls erupted into a huge laughing fit as Azalea grabbed the glass and turned in back into a lizard. The laughter stopped when McGonagall threw a piercing glare at the table. A few minutes later the class ended and they fought their way through the crowd. “I’m this way.” Rowena pointed toward Divination.

“Me too.” Azalea hugged her books to her chest.

“Well, we’ve got a free period. We’ll head to our rooms and see what we can find out.” Issobell and Hyacinth headed down the stairs to the Slytherin Common room, waving back to Rowena and Azalea. They got half way to the tower without saying a word.

“At least Divination should be entertaining. It is with Professor Trelawney after all.” Rowena tried to cheer her friend up, and it was almost working.

“True enough. Maybe,” Azalea cracked a smile. “Maybe she’ll tell me that I’m going to die in the next few classes and then I won’t have to go to quidditch tonight.”
